How to Layer Your Window Treatments

What do cakes, your fall wardrobe, and window treatments have in common?

They’re all improved by layers!

Sometimes the perfect window covering solution isn’t just one style of treatment, but multiple put together to achieve the desired look and function.

Today I’ll share some ideas and tips for keeping all your layered projects in style!

Motorized Woven Wood Shades with Stationary Drapery Panels

Combining the luxury of motorized shades with a pair of stationary drapery panels created a very polished look for this bedroom designed by the talented Linda Phillips.

 

At Linda’s request, we mounted the shades at the crown molding rather than mounting inside the window, the eliminate the “dead space” between the window and the molding to achieve the look Linda and her client wanted in this primary bedroom.

Sheer Drapery with Stationary Drapery Panels

More of a traditional window treatment, these simple layers offer light diffusion with the sheer panel in the front and stationary panels on the sides.

These are mounted on a double rod, with the sheers on a traversing rod and the stationary panels on a resin rod in a white finish.

Blinds with Drapery Panels

 

Blinds are a wonderful, functional window treatment that have a lot to offer in the way of privacy and light control.

But, they can also feel cold, without much in the way of beauty or aesthetics.

Combine them with a functional or stationary drapery panels, and you have a winner!

In this project, we mounted the blinds inside the window and the stationary drapery panels are mounted on a rod at the molding.

The beautiful fabric softens the overall look and brings color and personality into the room!
