How To Choose The Best Drapery Pleat

Our non-traditional Thanksgiving Lasagna feast was perfect, and otherwise very much like any other Thanksgiving. Lots of family time, lots of leftovers!

 

The long weekend was spent celebrating my American grandmother’s 100th birthday! Isn’t she lovely? Beautiful smile and hair-do…I hope I look this good when I grow up! 💖

And to top off an already fun weekend, we had early access movie tickets to see Sing 2. I absolutely loved the first Sing, so I’ve been looking forward to seeing this movie. Oh, and the kids loved it too! 😉

It’s all in the pleats when it comes to your drapery panels! The primary function of drapery pleats is to create fullness in the drapery panel.

Drapery pleats can impact the look & aesthetic of your drapery panels, which in turn can impact the look of the room. Today I’ll share a few of our favorite pleats that we use often at Vitalia Inc.

Double Top Tack Pleat

A double top tack pleat is frequently used by our designers that have a casual space, such as a family room, where they don’t desire formal-looking drapery panels or décor.

 

Perfect for casual fabric, this pleat has two folds in the pleat and is tacked at the top.

The fabric selected can have a significant impact on the pleat. Depending on the fabric and lining selected, the pleats may have a crisp look, or a more rounded look.

Triple French Pleat

Also known as a triple pinch pleat, the triple French pleat provides a more traditional look. Ten years ago, this was the go-to pleat for many of our designers.

But, design aesthetics change over time, and we use these pleats less often on our client’s drapery panels now. However, when a space calls for a more formal look, this pleat look quite lovely, don’t you think?

Again, Fabric choice and lining can impact the overall look and fullness of the pleat. You’ll also typically select a more traditional drapery rod to mount drapery panel with the Triple French Pleat.

Gacek Pleat

Never heard of this pleat before? That’s because it’s a custom pleat designed by one of our fabulous designers and fabricated by our seamster Boris!

Richard Gacek of the Gacek Design Group came up with this pleat, which is a two-fold pleat that is pinched at both the top and the bottom.

A bit of a variation on the double top tack pleat, this pleat is longer than the average pleat and stitched at the top and the bottom.
