Ripplefold Drapery: Why Precision Matters

Ripple Effect (n): when an initial disturbance to a system propagates outward to disturb an increasingly larger portion of the system

 

That’s a fancy way of saying that one very small thing can make a very big impact.

 

It’s funny how fitting it is that ripplefold drapes are named as such. Not only do they create a beautiful ripple in the fabric, but one small mistake with measurement or installation can have a cascade of consequences.

Ask me how I know this for a fact.

We recently installed beautiful ripplefold draperies for a very unique project.

Here’s the thing about ripplefold drapery: Unlike other drapery panels, ripplefold panels have zero room for measurement mistakes.

 

With a regular drapery panel, you can adjust the height between a ¼” to ½” during installation to achieve the perfect floor kissing length.

Not so with ripplefold panels. They must be precise, because they are attached by snaps, rather than adjustable rings.

And in this particular project, not only were we working with ripplefold draperies, but we were installing them with an inside mount of a door, which isn’t very common.

Imagine our horror, when the panels for this project, which measured exactly 100” on the table, were a full inch longer at 101” when Tom installed them. 😱

 

How does this happen? There are always variables in materials that make them a little bit unpredictable.

These panels happened to be fabricated with a beautiful linen fabric, which is susceptible to “growing”. Which is exactly what happened here.

How did we solve this dilemma?

As soon as Tom realized the issue, he contacted us so we could come up with a solution. Luckily, the project location wasn’t far from our in-house workroom – so we had the advantage of being nearby and had our seamster, Boris, on hand for an emergency fix!

 

We were able to bring the panels back to our workroom, unstitch the hem, trim by 1”, rehem, and get them back to Tom to complete the install.

 

The result? Perfectly installed ripplefold drapery, a happy client, and a very happy Vitalia Inc team.
