HELP ME NAME MY BABY!

Posted in: Uncategorized | June 22nd, 2009

I really never realized how difficult it would be.  It’s so permanent!  And so…as if it sets a foundation for the rest of his life.  Clearly, I’m not overthinking this at all :-)

But because I’m so tired of thinking about it, can I ask you to give me your feedback?

So here are the options.  All you need to do is click on ADD COMMENT and let me know which option gets your vote.

#1.  Vlad

#2. Anton

#3. Daniel

#4. Oliver

    Vita,

My vote is for Anton, it’s unique but yet, somehow familiar.

Please keep us posted as to what you decide.

    Hi Vita,

You’re not overthinking it: there really are a number of aspects to consider. When naming our son, I found myself thinking of:

–family (I wanted my son to know the parts of his background that aren’t obvious, like the fact that we have Scotch-Irish ancestry).

–carriage, meaning how will he carry the name, both in childhood and adulthood. As a child I always stood up for my name, liked that it was unusual and very much grew into my name as an adult. I see the same happening with my son as he proudly tells people, “I am Tain! T-A-I-N!”

–sound. I love that Tain’s name (Tain Elijah) is melodic (my husband is a musician).

–feel. The name just has to feel right. Only you can know that, and you’ll know it with even more certainty when you’re holding him in your arms. I can’t quite describe it, but I just knew Tain was indeed Tain when I saw him.

As for your choices, I will say that I like the alliteration of Vlad Vygovska and I also like the melodic sound of Anton.

But remember what we spoke about recently: take in all the advice and the votes, but know for yourself what feels right for your baby.

    Love,
    Sophfronia

So, here is my highly opinionated opinion :) I am not a fan of Vlad or Oliver. Anton and Daniel are both fine. Anton is cute and has that slightly-exotic-but-not-unpronounceable thing going on, but in my mind it is, for some reason, has a working-class-Mother-Russia-ish association. I don’t know, probably just me. Daniel is a nice basic name. However, my favorite boy’s name of all time is Max :)

Oliver is definitely out for me and I’m not crazy about Vlad. My vote is for Daniel Anton. When he is young he can be called Danny and when he gets to be a teen Dan.

By the way Doug and Lisa finally settled on Miles James Hatch.

    Hi Vita,

How about Anton Vitali? You have to have a “V” in there someplace :)

    Hi there, sweetie!
You still look gorgeous, so what more do you need? Oh – the name!
I also love Anton. A bit unusual and exotic.

A lot of people say you will know when you see him, but I was still unsure for a few days. Then we went with our first choice after all.

Good luck! Wishing you lots of love,
    Nika

    Dear Vitochka,

Decisions, decisions… These are all really good names. I don’t know how I feel about Oliver but the choice is understandably tough. I think, for me, the Oscar goes to Anton, with Daniel as runner up. Anton Bambino :) aww. Whatever you decide, he is going to be the cutest little bambino ever! I can’t wait :)

    Love,
    Dodichka

    Hi Vita,

I was thinking more life Salvatore or Giovanni but since you guys aren’t Italian and I did not see those choices (hmmmm) I like Daniel. Strong and manly.

    Love ya…….johnny d

Momma Hatch’s suggestion is brilliant, actually. Daniel Anton sounds nice and rolls off the tongue. And if the kid wants an unconventional name when he is old enough to care, he can always start using his middle name.

Hi Vita – you’re in the home stretch! Of course I vote for Daniel – it’s the name of my younger son and my boyfriend!

    Best of luck to you.

Congratulations Vita! I’m very happy for you and Vitali.

I like Daniel for its meaning: “God is my judge”, but the name Anton is unique and has a nicer rhythm. I’m left to combine the two as others have suggested: Daniel Anton.
